Anita Verberk "I grew up on a farm in the small town of Arkona, Ontario, in a large family of 8 people. As a kid, when I wasn't feeding the pigs or playing soccer, I was sketching cartoons or had my nose in a colouring book. I am currently a student at Conestoga College in Kitchener and am studying architecture. As I got older, I tried broadening my horizons and fell in love with portrait drawing. Although I am fairly new to painting, it’s the least I could do to show
my support for the victims of Haiti. My painting represents the new spirit of the Haitian people that will arise amidst such devastation. With our support, we can help them in working again towards some form of stability. Christiane Ruel "As a local painter and musician (cellist), I always try to convey a message of freedom, choice, interpretation, and joy of colors. The contemporary public enjoys my non-representational abstraction, as it allows them to navigate freely into the depth of the canvas. . Using mainly acrylics and mixed medias, I get the creative energy emerging from all the beauty and drama surrounding me. I strongly believe that as an artist and member of this community I have a responsibility to use my artistic vision to promote the arts, lend a hand to a great cause, and just simply, be thankful and give back. I share this vision with my wonderful daughter who will be a performer at the Gala tonite. Haiti, let us humble artists help you."
Homage to Haiti by Maryse Legault (Creative Concepts) "I now live in Orleans but I grew up in Pembroke, the youngest of four children. We lived in the country therefore I learned to amuse myself with varied crafts and sewing. By the time I entered high school I was quite often wearing one of my "creations". This love of creating has stayed with me all my life. From a stay at home Mom for eight years, through to my years working, I have always loved crafts sewing, and painting. Some people are happy curled up with a good book, I disappear into my studio and let my imagination run wild. In 2001, I retired from a career in telecom sales. It was my time! Time to travel and take more art classes. A friend told me about a fabric sculpture course. I signed up and was hooked. It encompasses all of my passions. I am now certified to teach the course. The disaster in Haiti made me realize how lucky we are in Canada. It made my heart ache for the people left homeless. I wanted to portray the desperation of a woman who has lost everything she owns......."Homage to Haiti" is my tribute." "The Tap Tap" & "Haiti Village - At Day's End" by Gail Anne Daoust

"This is my interpretation of life before the quake in a typical Haitian Village when people came home from working in the fields. Life was simple, but the Haitian people were happy, even with the very little possessions they had. In more cases than not, these quaint villages have disappeared and people are still living in tents, sleeping outside, even with the threat of exstensive rain. I related to the children of Haiti because of my own experience of being separated from from family so abruptly. Loss is hard and even harder when you do not have the ability to rebuild. Instinctively I knew I had to help. Rise Up! Art for Haiti relief is my hope that we can make a difference in the lives of the children that are helpless. I am very proud of this initiative because we know exactly where the money is going. Through the help of Canadian Feed the Children, we have donated over 43K to date and want to reach 50K. Help us make this happen. God Bless!"
Within The Grain - Derek Banke www.withinthegrain.com "Hi, my name is Derek Banke and welcome to 'Within the Grain Woodturning and Carving'. I have two wonderful sons 20 & 23 years of age who have given me much joy and love. They make me very proud to be their father. I am presently working as an Application Systems Analyst in the hightech sector. I have recently taken up woodturning and carving on a regular basis (evenings/weekends) since they have always interested and facinated me. Having worked as a licensed carpenter for many years prior to hightech, I always enjoyed working with my hands so these two hobbies are well suited to me. Currently I am working in the Hightech sector, but plan on taking my carving (wood/soapstone) and woodturning to the next level in the near future. I joined the "Valley Woodturners" and the "Outaouais Wood Carvers" last year, wow there sure are some fantastic woodturners and carvers in the clubs and our community. The best part about it is they don't hide anything from you and during the monthly demonstrations are more than willing to show you the "tricks of the trade". With such a wide range of experience in every aspect of woodturning and carving, you can't help to learn or see something new every meeting. I hope you enjoy my artwork. Please visit my website and contact me if you are interested in viewing some of my work and/or checking out my upcoming show schedule." Soul Art by Sagine Cavé " I love art and the power of imagination that comes with it. I have been drawing since the age of three and for the past 22 years visual arts has been my passion. I use various materials and mediums to create fun, positive, animated and mysterious paintings. I am following studies in Fine Arts in Montreal. Art brings me much joy and I am very happy to be part of Rise Up!. I wanted to be part of this event because I am of Haitian decent and wanted to contribute back to my roots. I am blessed to be able to help my country with my art. Haiti will rise up and heal from the earthquake, let's all help to make it happen."
Call of The Rooster by Gail Anne Daoust
"The call of the rooster in the morning in the villages of Haiti is prominent. Roosters are majestic and colourful and I wanted to capture this in the early morning after a rainfall as it walks in a newly formed puddle. The sky is red as the sun is rising for the start of a brand new day."
Next Generation by Gail Anne Daoust "The dandelion, while wild and to most considered a nuisance, is magnificent to watch at the end of its cycle of life only to start a new generation of dandelions. With the wind as its source to disperse the tiny pod, it floats through the air like a man with a parachute and lands planting itself directly into the ground. Weeks later a new generation of dandelions is born to restart the life cycle."
